Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Reception 2024: Information for Parents

 

 

Welcome to our information page for the parents and carers of children who are due to start in our Reception classes in September 2024. We are very much looking forward to getting to know your child and your family and to working alongside you during your child’s time at Godinton.

Starting school is a very exciting step and the Godinton team are here to ensure that the transition from pre-school to school goes as smoothly as possible. We have a number of activities timetabled over the coming months to assist your child in becoming familiar with our school and to support you in preparing for September- we have really enjoyed starting to get to know your child over the past few weeks.

PARENT INFORMATION PRESENTATION  

We invite new parents to an information evening on Monday 17th June 2024 at 6.30 p.m. This is an opportunity for parents to meet our staff, visit the classrooms and to find out useful practical steps to support your child in starting school. At this meeting, you will be able to collect our new starter information pack, which contains all the forms that need to be completed prior to your child starting school, information about your child’s new class and teacher and details of their start date. Also included will be our Parents’ Handbook which offers essential information about our school.

HELPING YOUR CHILD TO GET READY FOR BIG SCHOOL

All our children are unique and will each start school with different skills and capabilities. Some children may start school being able to write their name and others won't be at that stage of development yet. Some may be very independent whilst others might take a little longer to gain their confidence. Some may be able to ride a bike whilst others are still developing their coordination. Our staff are here to support our children in building on from whatever stage of learning and development they have reached.

There are lots of practical things that parents and carers can do to help their children develop skills that will assist them with the transition to school. This ranges from showing them how to put their coat on or helping them to look after their belongings, to engaging them in talking activities to develop speech and language skills.
